Team SWANS Volkswagen Environmental Program
It is a source of great pride for the Sydney Swans that the Club and our Major Partner, Volkswagen, have teamed up to initiate the
Team SWANS Volkswagen Environmental Program.
Volkswagen is committed to sustainability, which means taking responsibility for the environment and working to contribute to a sustainable future, through their products and behaviour. Volkswagen call this way of thinking "Think Blue.".
To launch the Team SWANS Volkswagen Environmental Program, Volkswagen is offering Sydney Swans fans the chance to enjoy a very special VIP family day out at the Sydney Swans vs. Hawthorn match at the SCG on 25 August including travel, the chance to watch the game from a corporate box and a visit to the Sydney Swans change room.
The purpose of the Team SWANS Volkswagen Environmental Program is to educate children and young adults on the effects their daily activities can have on their surrounding environment. The Program encourages the participants to consider small changes and differences they can make in their lives to help the environment, such as recycling, energy consumption, and the necessity of careful water consumption.
Swans players will be used as ambassadors to effectively deliver the Program’s key messages and motivate and inspire the next generation to become environmental champions in their household, educating the rest of their family on how they too can make a difference.
Many Swans players already "Think Blue." and have started making a difference for the environment around the club by:
|
Ryan O’Keefe – I always try to recycle both at home and around the Club. Recycling is so easy, you just have to look out for the recycling symbol on everything you buy and make sure you separate glass, plastic and paper wherever you can.
Follow Ryan’s lead and make sure that you are recycling everything you can be at home
|
|
Jarrad McVeigh – When I’m the last to leave the locker room, I try to make sure all the lights are off and that any electrical equipment that isn’t being used, is switched off at the power point.
Can you follow Jarrad’s lead and turn off all lights and power points when not in use? Make sure to turn off your computer monitor as well, as this makes up a huge 80% of an average computer’s total energy consumption. |
|
Lewis Jetta – Riding my bike to and from the club most days. Many of my teammates and other staff at the club use this form of transport as a means of keeping fit, but also as a way of reducing our carbon footprint.
Can you follow Lewis’ lead and make it into work or school at least once a week on your bike? |
|
Shane Mumford – I’m very conscious of how important it is to save water. By simply taking a shorter shower and turning off the tap when you’re brushing your teeth you can make a real difference to the amount of water you use at home. Around the Club I also try to make sure that the taps in the change rooms aren’t left dripping.
See how often during the day you can save water by turning off the taps when you don’t need them to be on.
