The Swans finally secured him from Hawthorn for the start of 2007 after missing out the previous year, but he had a mixed season. The vastly experienced ruckman was best on ground in some matches, but had little influence in others. Played every game in 2007 after being troubled by ankle injuries in his final season with the Hawks. Sixth in the best and fairest.
Career The naturally gifted Hastings junior was recruited to St Kilda from its VMFL zone and then nurtured in the under-19s competition where he showed good mobility for his height before making his senior debut in 1993. His subsequent two seasons were hampered by a lack of confidence and injury but he started realising his potential when an in-house survey at the Saints revealed his teammates felt he wasn't using his great talent. Shocked at the prospect others felt he had talent, Everitt returned strongly late in the season and in the final match booted four goals in six minutes in a stunning start and finished with six. He starred in the Saints victorious 1996 pre-season competition campaign and before too long became a cult figure with his dreadlocked hairdo and tattoos in a mixed season on the field. Early in 1997 he demanded a chat with his coach Stan Alves about moving into the ruck and the transformation was complete when he earned Victorian and All-Australian selection despite a shoulder injury in the first week of the finals which kept him out of the Grand Final. The following year he made his second All-Australian team and was runner-up in the Club's best and fairest. He took out Moorabbin's top honour in 2001 and represented Victoria a further two times before being traded to Hawthorn in 2002. He made an immediate impression at his new club finishing fifth in the best and fairest despite missing six games with a hamstring injury. He took out the award the following year and came second in 2005 before requesting a trade to join the Swans. Both Clubs were unable to make a deal so he played out 2006, though missed the second half of the season with an ankle injury, before finally moving to the Harbour City for the 2007 season.
