Following his best and fairest win in 2010, Jack was keen to continue his impressive development in 2011. But for the first time in his career, injury struck. A serious ankle injury against Carlton in round six kept him out of five games before a recurrence forced him to be substituted out of the round 14 clash with Collingwood and then miss another game. He struggled with match fitness upon his return, but the important member of the Swans’ midfield was back to his best in the run in to the finals. Coaches' call: 2011 was … an up and down year. He hurt his ankle and had to work out how to play well when carrying an injury, so that was something new for him. But unfortunately it didn’t allow him to gain any consistency. His preseason has been … He needed a good break so he didn’t set any records when he first returned after the off-season period. But he worked hard to get a good base, and since Christmas he has been close to the best trainer at the Club. He set a club record in the endurance and agility test (the yoyo) and his GPS readings are amazing. At training session after session he does the most repeat sprint efforts, and trains the house down. We hope in 2012 … that with the fitness base he has and being injury-free, we have high expectations that he can have a really consistent season and get back to his best.
