She may not be able to drive it, but Swans fan Georgie Quale is now the proud new owner of a Volkswagen Polo.

The winner of this year’s Sydney Swans Academy Raffle picked up her brand new Volkswagen from the South Yarra dealership on Thursday evening, but will have to wait to get her P Plates before she can take it for a spin.

The 28-year-old said her new red Polo might be the incentive she needs to finally go for her driver’s licence test.

“Everyone has given me so much grief for not driving. I told them I was going to wait for a good time, and I think this is now a good time,” Quale told sydneyswans.com.au

“I’ve told everyone that I would drive when I’m ready, and now I’ve got a car it might be a good time to start.”

Quale’s experience was made all the more special when the South Yarra Volkswagen dealership made the effort to personalise Quale’s number plate, which now includes her month and day of birth.

“My birthday is the 11/1/84 and the dealer gave me the numberplate ZND111, so that was good,” she said.

“They were really helpful with sorting that out.”

Winning the car was such a surprise to Quale, that when the Swans phoned her to let her know the good news she didn’t believe them.

“I was at work about five weeks ago, and at the start I was like “No, I’m not interested” because I thought it was a scam,” she said.

“I didn’t actually know that my mum entered me in the raffle, so when I got the call I didn’t believe her and the lady was like ‘No, no, no – I’ve just spoken to your mum, it’s true!’”

Taking out the raffle capped off a terrific year for the long time Swans fan, who also experienced the Swans Grand Final win live at the MCG.

“I am a Swans fan and I was at the Grand Final, and it was very exciting,” she said.
