Key position player Sam Reid is nearing a return to senior football as he continues to increase his workload.

Reid is eyeing off a return to senior football in Round 22 despite an injury interrupted 2016 season battling calf and achillies issues.

General Manager of Football Tom Harley told the HCF injury update Reid would look for a return through the NEAFL in the coming weeks.

“Sam Reid has had a really frustrating year clearly as he hasn’t played senior football at all this year,” Harley said.

“There are a few hurdles to cross for Sam but we are hoping to see him return by Round 22, about the same time Kurt Tippett is due back.

“The positive sign is that he should be able to get a couple of games under his belt before hopefully a finals campaign.”

Jeremy Laidler continues his recovery from a hamstring injury and will be looking to break his way back into the team in the next fortnight.

Harley said Laidler was making positive progress in his recovery.

“Jeremy hurt his hamstring in his last NEAFL outing and is now eleven days post that injury,” he said.

“We are looking at a Round 20 return for Jeremy so he is almost half way through his rehab at this stage.

“Knowing the professional that Jeremy is, I have no doubt he will be making sure he is ticking every box to make sure he gets back in time.”

Zak Jones and Abe Davis both sustained ankle injuries over the weekend and will miss the next four to six weeks.
