The Sydney Swans are confident of regaining young gun Callum Mills for the Qualifying Final against GWS.

Mills missed Sydney’s Round 23 win over Richmond with a minor calf injury.

General Manager of Football Tom Harley says the 19-year-old is poised to play in his first AFL final.

“He had a corked calf from the North Melbourne game and it’s fair to say we took a fairly conservative approach with Callum – he’s had a massive year for a first-year player,” Harley told the HCF injury update.

“He’s training this week and he’s got another week to go, so we fully expect him to play.”

Meanwhile fresh from inking a new two-year deal, Dan Robinson is close to returning to play and could line up in the Swans NEAFL final against Aspley at Blacktown.

Robinson has returned to full training after being sidelined since Round 7 with a shoulder injury.

But the best news on the injury front this week is reserved for Alex Johnson who was able to run for the first time in two years.

Johnson ran on the AlterG machine, an anti-gravity treadmill that helps manage the load on joints.

Harley says Johnson’s story has given the whole team a lift.

“Alex ran – to see his response was great and to see the team’s response was fantastic,” Harley said.

“He’s clearly got a long way to go, but when you start to run you can ramp things up pretty quickly, so we’re going to explore everything to give him the best chance to reignite his AFL career.”
