I started the year pretty well, which is always a good thing, but trying to sustain it (was a challenge).

It was an up and down year for versatile Swan Harry Cunningham who, despite playing 18 senior matches, found himself in the reserves at the wrong time of year.

The 22-year-old played the opening 12 matches of the season before spending five weeks in the NEAFL team fine-tuning his game.

After earning a recall in Round 18, Cunningham played a further six games in red and white before being left out of the Swans’ qualifying final against GWS. He was later named an emergency for all four finals.

Cunningham’s best game was in Round 19 when he collected 22 disposals, five marks and four tackles in the team’s win against Fremantle in Perth, which earned him 35 votes from the coaches in this year’s Bob Skilton Medal.

With 70 games and five years of footy under his belt, Cunningham is eyeing a big pre-season as he strives to become a consistent contributor for the Swans.

In his own words
"I was probably a little inconsistent. I started the year pretty well, which is always a good thing, but trying to sustain it (was a challenge). It’s something that I can improve on over the summer and I’m really looking forward to that. We had great depth this year, we’ve got a lot of young guys coming through who are playing some really good footy. It’s always good to have that healthy competition for spots and hopefully that can continue for years to come" - Harry Cunningham on SwansTV
