Young Swan Callum Mills believes a bright future awaits his side following a disappointing end to the 2016 season.

Seven debutants lined up in the red and white this season as the coaching staff looked to rejuvenate the playing list following the retirement of premiership stars Adam Goodes, Rhyce Shaw and Mike Pyke.

Mills was the standout first year performer for the Swans and was named the AFL Rising Star at the completion of the home and away season in recognition of his sensational debut season.

The 19-year-old is confident in the direction the side is heading following a transformation of the playing list throughout the 2016 season.

“We have a lot of young guys coming through which is very exciting for the Club for the next couple of years,” Mills said.

“Hopefully we can go one step better either next year or the following year so it is a bright future in front of us and I love being involved in it.”

Being named the best young player in the competition was a humbling experience for the half-back but one he is very proud of.

“To play games is fun every week and then to be recognised as the best young player is humbling and something that I will look back on in a couple of years,” Mills said.

“I love every minute of being here.

“It has been a special season and I am very grateful for the time I have had.”

Mills will join his teammates back on the training track when the first to fourth year players return to training on November 21.
