Youngster Zak Jones is looking forward to an uninterrupted pre-season after being restricted by injuries over the last few campaigns leading into the season.

Following his most consistent season of senior football the 21-year-old enters his fourth year on the Swans list excited by what lies ahead.

Jones was struck down with an ankle injury in Round 17 before returning to be a member of the losing Grand Final side.

“I didn’t want to rule myself out after the ankle injury,” Jones said.

“I just wanted to take the opportunity when it came. I’m looking forward to this pre-season, last year I couldn’t do one because of the knee injury.”

Despite a disappointing result the running defender believes there is plenty to take away from Grand Final day.

“It was good to have that experience of playing in a grand final,” Jones told the Daily Telegraph.

“Not many players get to do that. My brother (Nathan) has been playing for a long time and he’s never played in one. It was an experience we will all learn from and get better.”

Jones enjoyed a trip to Bali in the off-season with teammate Isaac Heeney as the pair went on a surfing adventure.

The duo was cautious to make sure they were not surfing waves over three metres and putting themselves at any risk of injury ahead of pre-season training.

“The one day it was big we went down the coast where it was a bit smaller,” Jones said.

“It was still a fantastic experience.”
