Isaac Heeney is coming off his best pre-season since joining the Swans as he prepares to launch the next chapter of his career through the midfield.

The 20-year-old showed glimpses of his brilliance through the middle of the ground during the opening JLT Series match against North Melbourne on Sunday.

He competed through the midfield during the finals series last year and has been earmarked as one of the young players to push through that area of the ground in 2017.

Heeney said he's feeling as fit as ever.

"The first two years I struggled with a bit of knee tendonitis and this is the first year I've had a full pre-season,” Heeney said.

“I'm feeling really fit and strong and really ready to get stuck into some more games.

“I definitely feel a lot fitter than last year that is for sure.”

With the midfield group set to expand with the addition of Heeney, Zak Jones and Callum Mills this season Heeney will still feature up forward at times.

The star youngster doesn’t have a preference of what position he would want to play as long as he is getting a regular match.

"Personally I'm happy wherever 'Horse' (senior coach John Longmire) would like to put me but I feel like I'm most comfortable in the middle," he said.

"Just always around the footy and sort of cracking in pretty hard is where I like to be but wherever Horse wants to put me I'll do my best that's for sure."

Heeney has just completed a three-day training camp with teammates up in the Coffs Harbour region.

"We come up here and we love it," he said.

"How can you not love an area like this?

"They're extremely supportive and they're great fans up here so we love to get up here and support them as well."
