Emerging midfielder Daniel Robinson has ensured the coaches have a tough decision to make heading into the opening round of the season, after he impressed during Friday night’s JLT Series win over GWS.

Robinson gathered 15 disposals in wet conditions against the Giants and looked comfortable playing through the middle of the ground.

It has been a strong pre-season for the 22-year-old as he aims to cement a spot in the senior side during his fourth season at the Swans.

Season 2016 saw Robinson play seven matches to start the year before being struck down with a dislocated shoulder, which saw him on the sidelines for the next four months.

The skilful midfielder says the injury has highlighted the importance of making the most of every opportunity to showcase his ability.

“I think I have put together a pretty strong pre-season to date, but I would have liked to have played a bit better in the previous match,” Robinson said.

“I thought I had great intensity today and that’s what I wanted to bring, so hopefully I have done enough to get another game next week.

“I can hopefully build from that and go into round one with a lot of confidence.”

Robinson is among a group of young players set to add further depth to the midfield stocks throughout 2017, with Zak Jones, Isaac Heeney and Callum Mills already showing they are ready to step up.

Mills is expected to still spend majority of his time across the backline after continuing to impress against the Giants with his poise and composure in tough conditions.

“He’s a great half backer and we still have high hopes for him being a good midfielder as well,” assistant coach Henry Playfair said of Mills post-match.

“He does the job so well back there that it’s hard to move him, so we will constantly keep in our mind that he can go midfield.

“He got exposure last year so it’s just about us getting that balance right for the team.”
