McVeigh to miss Saints clash

HCF Injury Update - May 16, 2017 Head of Football Tom Harley provides the latest injury update thanks to HCF Health Insurance.

Sydney Swans veteran Jarrad McVeigh has been ruled out of Saturday’s clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.

Despite receiving treatment for a hamstring injury early in the match, McVeigh played on and booted two goals in Sunday’s win over North Melbourne.

Head of Football Tom Harley said the 32-year-old has undergone scans and will miss at least one week.

“Scans have revealed a low-grade hamstring strain so it was a really brave effort by Jarrad to not only play, but contribute with a couple of goals,” Harley said.

“He won’t play this week and we will assess him as he goes through the week as to whether he plays against Hawthorn the weekend after.”

The Swans will also be without Kieren Jack for another week as he continues to recover from a hip injury.

“We were hopeful that this week might have been his (Jack’s) return game but he will miss his fourth consecutive game,” Harley said.

“He is still very much a chance to play next week.

“It was always going to take a bit of time to get the strength work for Kieren, so it is certainly progressing and heading in the right direction.”

Meanwhile defender Dane Rampe is in contention to face St Kilda after recovering from a broken arm.

Rampe will be tested at training throughout the week as he aims to play his first game since Round 1 against Port Adelaide.
