The Sydney Swans have been sanctioned $5,000, with $2,500 of the penalty suspended for involvement in a melee against North Melbourne.

AFL General Manager Football Operations Simon Lethlean today said the Carlton, St Kilda, Sydney Swans and North Melbourne Football Clubs had each been sanctioned after their involvement in melees during Round 8 matches.

Mr Lethlean said each club had been given the opportunity to respond in writing to the AFL with any points they wished to raise, after being given notice from the AFL’s Round 8 review that the involvement of their players in melees had breached AFL guidelines.

After responses from each club, it had been determined that both Carlton and St Kilda had been sanctioned $10,000, as the involvement of players in melees during this game at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, May 13, was more prolonged and viewed more seriously.

Separately, the Swans and North Melbourne had both been sanctioned $5000, with $2500 of the penalty for these two clubs suspended until the end of the season, pending any further involvement for either club in a similar incident.
