HCF Injury Update - September 12, 2017 Head of Football Tom Harley provides the latest injury update thanks to HCF Health Insurance.

Lewis Melican is in line to return for Friday night's semi-final against Geelong at the MCG.

Young defender Lewis Melican is expected to shrug off his quad complaint and put his best foot forward at training this week in the hope of winning a senior recall for Friday night’s semi-final against Geelong.

Melican was a late omission before last weekend’s clash with Essendon due to a sore quad which flared during the final round of the regular season.

With now two weeks off, Head of Football Tom Harley expected Melican to train fully in the team’s final session on Wednesday and press his claims to play in Friday night’s cut-throat final.

“Lewis has had a bit of quad issue (which) presented itself in the Carlton game,” Harley said in this week’s HCF Injury Update.

“(Even) with the week off, he was touch and go last week but couldn’t quite get up.

“He’s been running so we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do on Wednesday.

“That’s our final session, we expect him to train and be available for selection, so we’ll address it then.”

Meanwhile, Lance Franklin has recovered well from a corked thigh and looks on track to play Geelong.

Franklin looked visibly hampered after colliding with Essendon’s Brendan Goddard in the opening quarter, but recovered to kick a game-high four goals in the elimination final win.
