The Sydney Swans have finalised their list for the 2018 season, bringing in two new players and re-drafting Alex Johnson in Monday’s Rookie Draft.

With the Club’s first pick, No. 14 overall, they selected Sandringham Dragons midfielder Angus Styles.

The 18-year-old wingman/half-back-flanker works hard, has a big tank and is a good decision maker.

Joining Styles at Sydney is Dragons teammate Joel Amartey, who was recruited with pick 28.

The developing ruckman/forward, who stands 196cm and weighs 85kg, can take a strong mark and influence games around the ground and on the scoreboard.

The Swans used their final selection, pick 36, to re-draft 2012 premiership player, Alex Johnson.

Johnson, who has had a well-documented horror run with injury, returned to the field this year after five knee reconstructions and 1736 days on the sidelines.

The 25-year-old has been in fine form on the training track so far, and for the first time since 2012 will get an opportunity to complete a full pre-season.

As was announced earlier in the day, the Swans also recruited QBE Sydney Swans Academy pair Jake Brown and James Bell as Category B Rookies.

Sydney Swans Manager – Recruiting and List Strategy, Kinnear Beatson, says the Club’s pleased to finalise its list for season 2018.

“One of our priorities right from the start was to try and add to our midfield depth and we’ve done that through the recruitment of Matt Ling, Ryley Stoddart, Angus Styles, James Bell and Jake Brown,” Beatson said.

“We were also able to address our key position stocks, especially our forwards, by recruiting big Tom McCartin, who is a key forward, and Joel Amartey, who’s a ruckman/forward.

“We think we’ve been able to add to two areas we were a little bit deficient in, so we’re pleased.”

The Swans have had great success at the Rookie Draft in recent years, with the likes of Dane Rampe, Jake Lloyd, Heath Grundy, Nick Smith, Kieren Jack and Lewis Melican, among others, all starting their careers as rookies.
