Robbie Fox is enjoying the change of position that has come his way over the pre-season with the 24-year-old plying his trade across half back.

It was a glimpse to what may be ahead in the 2018 season when Fox lined up in defence during the opening JLT Series match against Brisbane in Moreton Bay on Saturday.

His pressure and speed during his first three senior matches last season showed why he was drafted as a forward but a move to defence seems to have reinvigorated the mature-aged recruit.

“I am loving it back there,” Fox said.

“You get to play on someone and then play off them so it is good fun.”

He was among the best in Saturday’s big win as he finished the match with 24 disposals, six marks and five rebound 50s.

Fox told SwansTV after the win there was plenty of positives signs from the side in their first official hit out of the pre-season.

“It was good, it has been a long pre-season so it was a good chance to get to play against another opposition,” Fox said

“We had some plans we wanted to do in particular in terms of working on our offence over the pre-season and I think we did that today.

“What we worked on over the pre-season we want to keep working on next week and leading into Round 1.”

Fox is expected to get one more opportunity to prove his case to the match committee on Friday night against the Giants before the opening home and away game at Optus Stadium on March 25 against West Coast.
