Meanwhile, it was an eventful night for Big Bud as he capped his return from injury with a record-breaking three goals against Freo in a dominant showing. The three majors means he now has 301 goals for the Swans. He joins Sydney and St Kilda legend Tony Lockett as the only men in VFL/AFL history to kick 300 goals for two different clubs (Franklin previously had joined the 300-club with Hawthorn). The superstar forward now has 21 goals in 2018, to get him moving back up the Coleman Medal leaderboard.
SCG hoodoo continues for luckless Dockers
Fremantle’s horror run outside Western Australia continues, as the Dockers were downed yet again by a rampant Sydney side. Freo hasn't won interstate for over 11 months, losing all eight of those games outside WA over that period by at least four goals. Their record at the SCG is much worse - they haven’t won here since 2011. That seven-year itch now includes a draw and four losses. And to add insult to injury, Fremantle has never won a game in Sydney against either side under Ross Lyon.
Kennedy stands tall in his 200th with a captain’s knock
Sydney captain Josh Kennedy celebrated his 200th match as a Swan with an inspirational display in front of an adoring home crowd. He kicked three goals, had 20 disposals and frustrated the Fremantle attack in a memorable night for a Swans favourite. Meanwhile, just eight days after Ben Ronke introduced himself to the AFL top flight in stunning fashion with a seven-goal showpiece against the Hawks, the youngster picked up where he left off with an ice-cold goal in the first quarter to further stamp his scoring credentials.
Hamling hurt after a Lance-ing blow
In his first match back from a three-game injury lay-off, Swans star Lance Franklin may come under the scrutiny of Match Review Officer Michael Christian after collecting Fremantle defender Joel Hamling’s head with a swinging elbow. Hamling was helped from the ground and subsequently failed the club's concussion test at half-time, playing no further part in the match. While the incident seemed unintentional from Franklin, he may have a nervous wait to see if the MRO deems it accidental or not.
