Young Swans forward Tom McCartin has praised the side’s all-aboard effort in Sydney’s hard-fought win over the West Coast Eagles at the SCG last Friday.

All 22 Swans had to bring their best for the Swans to topple the ladder-leading Eagles and McCartin said everyone played a part.

“The coach was saying after the game that the way we won was through an even spread of contributors,” McCartin told SwansTV post-match.

“It’s a credit to all the boys and everyone scrapped really hard and it was a really well-deserved win.

“West Coast’s pressure was huge. I noticed it straight away. But then I thought we brought our pressure game as well and to come away with the win is huge.”

Forwards Lance Franklin, Tom Papley and Ben Ronke all kicked doubles, while Kieren Jack, Harry Cunningham, Will Hayward and captain Josh Kennedy hit the scoreboard themselves.

The defensive pressure of a host of Swans forwards was immense and it led to a number of goals.

Luke Parker was a bull in the midfield and strong when ‘resting’ as a forward, while Kennedy led the way at the contest in a return of 28 touches and six clearances.

Evergreen backman Heath Grundy was as reliable as ever in his 250th match and pulled the rest of Sydney’s defence with him, including young gun Jake Lloyd who polled a Swans-high eight coaches’ votes.

Lloyd tallied 28 disposals and Rampe kept star West Coast forward Josh Kennedy to two goals, eight possessions and four marks.

Ruckman Callum Sinclair faced a giant challenge in a duel against star West Coast duo Nic Naitanui and Scott Lycett, but the former Eagle gathered 14 disposals, 16 hit-outs and five tackles in a solid performance.

McCartin gathered a career-high 16 touches in his fifth senior game and said he was pleased with his contribution to the 15-point win.

“I think I did my job,” McCartin said.

“I just brought the ball to ground, as did the other tall forwards. Then we just scrapped on the ground and beat them with our speed.”
