Star forward Lance Franklin will play his 100th Swans game when Sydney takes on Richmond in a top-of-the-table clash at Etihad Stadium on Thursday night.

The two-time premiership hero played 182 matches for Hawthorn and will become just the 44th player in VFL/AFL history to play 100 games for two clubs.

He is set to become just the fifth player in Swans history to achieve the feat after Barry Round, Paul Williams, Greg Williams and Anthony Daniher.

Franklin has achieved a lot since pulling on the red-and-white guernsey ahead of the 2014 season and below is a timeline of his biggest moments as a Swan.

First game in red and white

As the football world grappled with the sight of Franklin running around in Swans colours, Sydney fell to GWS in the former Hawk’s first game in red and white in Round 1, 2014. He wasted no time in stamping his impact in his new colours when he goaled at the six-minute mark of the opening term, but the Giants would go on to collect a 32-point win.

Franklin’s first fantastic five

Franklin has kicked five or more goals in a game on 19 occasions since signing with the Swans and booted his first five-goal haul in Round 9, 2014. His bag of five led Sydney to a 50-point win over Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

Kicking 600 career goals

Franklin notched his 600th career goal as Sydney cruised to a 110-point victory over Geelong in Round 11, 2014. He finished with a bag of four and ticked off the milestone at the 25-minute of the first quarter. Franklin’s influence was immense as the Swans inflicted the Cats’ biggest loss since a 148-point defeat to the Power in 2001 and their seventh-heaviest loss in history. The match also marked Franklin's first Indigenous Round game in Swans colours.

Notching 200 career games

Swans fans won’t ever forget Franklin’s 200th career game. The Western Australian bagged nine goals as Sydney recorded a 71-point win over St Kilda at the SCG in Round 21, 2014.

Seventh heaven: Kicking goal 700

The Hawks dealt the Swans an 89-point loss at ANZ Stadium in Round 16, 2015 but another Franklin milestone didn’t go unnoticed. The star forward kicked his 700th career goal and finished with three for the night against his former side.

Paul Kelly Players’ Player award

Franklin capped a brilliant season when he took out the Paul Kelly Players’ Player award at the 2016 Club Champion Dinner. All players lodge their votes after every round of the season and the prized gong signifies putting everything on the line for the team. Franklin kicked 81 goals across 26 games in 2016 and joined the likes of cherished clubmen Adam Goodes, Paul Williams and Josh Kennedy in claiming the award.

Joining the 250-game club

While Franklin’s 200th game played out like a dream, his 250th was soured by a one-point loss to Collingwood in Round 3, 2017. The milestone man was kept goalless as the Swans fell to a third-consecutive loss to open their premiership campaign.

Booting 800 career goals

Franklin became just the 12th player in VFL/AFL history to kick 800 career goals as the Swans fell to the Giants at the SCG in Round 5, 2017. His third of three majors brought up his 800th goal late in the final term to the cheers of the red-and-white faithful. Franklin and Tony Lockett are the only two players in Swans history to have reached the 800-goal barrier, while Franklin, Essendon’s Matthew Lloyd and Richmond’s Matthew Richardson are the only players to have done so since the turn of the century.

A bag of 10 beats the Blues

Franklin trailed star West Coast forward Josh Kennedy by five goals in the race for the 2017 Coleman Medal ahead of Sydney’s match with Carlton in Round 23, but he would slam home 10 goals against the Blues to place one hand on the prized gong in the SCG clash. Kennedy needed to kick five goals to equal Franklin in his side’s match with Adelaide the following day but only managed one. Franklin has kicked 10 or more goals on two occasions in his 281-game career and his final-round bag against Carlton was his biggest since a return of 13 against North Melbourne in Hawthorn colours in 2012.

Eight in the west

As the Swans got their 2018 campaign off to a winning start in a clash with the Eagles in Perth, Franklin recorded his best opening-round return of his career. He opened season 2008 with a flurry of six and would go on to boot a century of goals for the season, but at Optus Stadium in Round 1 this year he eclipsed that mark in a bag of eight. It saw him shoot to a big early lead in the race for the Coleman Medal as an injured Kennedy watched on from the sidelines.

A seat alongside Plugger

Franklin etched his name a granule deeper in Australian rules folklore when he booted his 300th Swans goal in Sydney’s match with Fremantle in Round 9 this year, making him and Lockett the only two men in VFL/AFL history to have kicked 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin kicked 580 goals across nine seasons for the Hawks and ahead of Sydney’s match with Richmond is sitting on 311 for the Swans. Franklin kicked three goals in the Dockers clash and reached his triple century early in the third term. He slotted a left-foot snap from the right-forward pocket and turned to the lower tier of the Churchill Stand, clenched his fist and let out a deafening roar before a 27,000-strong crowd.

Coleman Medal wins

Franklin is a four-time Coleman Medallist and has twice claimed the prestigious gong as a Swan. He kicked 67 regular-season goals in 2014 to edge Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughhead (62) and Port Adelaide’s Jay Schulz (62) for his first Coleman Medal in red and white, before last year booting 69 regular-season goals to pip star Eagle Kennedy (65).

All-Australian honours

Franklin is a seven-time All-Australian and has been named among the best on three occasions since signing with the Swans. The 891-goal champion earned All-Australian honours in his first season as a Swan in 2014, before again making the cut in 2016 and 2017.
