The Sydney Swans and AFL NSW/ACT have combined forces to support women of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, putting themselves in the thick of action at NAIDOC in the City on Saturday.

NAIDOC in the City is an annual celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, with this year’s events paying tribute to the theme ‘Because of her, we can’.

Saturday saw the Swans and AFL NSW/ACT run a series of fun activities for young boys and girls at Hyde Park, with free footballs, pencil cases and memberships in free-flowing supply.

Fan Community Senior Manager Arna Hunt says it’s vital the invaluable work of Indigenous women is acknowledged on a national stage.

“It’s very easy for us to recognise the contribution that a lot of men have made to the game of Aussie rules,” Hunt said.

“But it’s also very important to recognise what women have done for the Indigenous culture and the game of Aussie rules in general.

“NAIDOC in the City is an incredibly important event."
