The Sydney Swans will be looking to secure more day games in season 2019, with next year’s fixture due to be released next week.

With the Swans being scheduled just two day SCG games for the 2018 home-and-away season, the Club has requested for more afternoon or twilight fixtures in 2019.

The Swans’ last SCG match of season 2018 drew a crowd of 40,350 as Sydney hosted GWS in an elimination final, while the past six SCG day games have attracted an average of 38,686 fans.

Incoming Swans CEO Tom Harley, who will take over from Andrew Ireland on December 22, said it was important to request more family-friendly times in season 2019.

“We understand formulating the fixture makes for an incredibly complex and difficult task, however our members have understandably asked for more day games in 2019 and we’ve requested that from the AFL,” Harley said.

“The afternoon and twilight fixtures appeal to such a diverse group of people, including young families, so it’s important to have a good mix of games.

“We’re really hopeful we’ll receive more day games next season to complement our fixture mix and look forward to seeing the stands packed with red and white in what is set to be another exciting season for the Sydney Swans.”

The Swans will launch NSW memberships on Wednesday, with interstate memberships set to go on sale after the fixture is announced.

With the Swans coming off a ninth-straight finals campaign, Harley says now is the perfect time to join as a member.

“The Club is embarking on a really exciting next chapter in its long history,” Harley said.

“We’ve got an incredibly exciting list, some established stars and a picturesque stadium in the heart of Sydney.

“There were so many great moments in 2018 and we’re expecting next season to be another enjoyable ride.

“Our young group will be better for being part of another finals campaign and I am confident that we have the players, coaches and support staff to put forward another strong campaign.

“The Sydney Swans family is growing every year and we can’t thank the 60,934 members enough for their unwavering support and look forward to welcoming new members to the family in season 2019.”
