McGlynn bounced back strongly from the disappointment of missing the 2012 premiership due to injury by finishing second in the club’s goalkicking with 30 for the year.

One of the AFL’s most dangerous small forwards, he has managed an excellent 113 goals in 81 games as a Swan.

He missed four games through injury and suspension last season, but his tackling pressure and skills around goal have made him an important cog in the Swans’ set-up.

He is eyeing time in the midfield this year.

Previous AFL club: Hawthorn (2006-09: 44 games, 28 goals).

Draft history: 2006 Rookie Draft selection (Hawthorn) No. 55 overall; 2006 rookie elevation (Hawthorn); 2009 NAB AFL Draft traded by Hawthorn for No. 46 (Ben Stratton) and No. 70 (Matthew Suckling).

2014 Coaches Call

His 2013 season was pretty good and he’s a real barometer for us. When he’s playing well, we tend to play well. He finished off the year as a midfielder, but started the year up forward and was one of our leading goalkickers before someone named Kurt Tippett came along and kicked a couple of goals.

His pre-season has been really good. He hasn’t missed a beat and is one of the fittest players at the club and is probably one of the better trainers as well. He’s definitely set himself up for a big year.

We hope in 2014 he can have another good year and that this year can be Benny’s best year at the club. He’s showed that he can play forward really well and can kick goals, but he can also go in the midfield. I’m sure the way he finished last year’s final in the midfield showed a glimpse of what he’s capable of.
