McGlynn was the hard luck story of the Swans’ premiership campaign, injuring his hamstring in the opening week of the finals and forced to watch the rest of the way.

Having played all but one game up to that point, it was a cruel end to an otherwise fine season for McGlynn, who kicked 30 goals in 22 games.

But he threw his support behind his teammates for the Grand Final and is even more determined to taste premiership success himself.

Previous AFL club: Hawthorn (2006-09: 44 games, 28 goals).

Draft history: 2006 Rookie Draft selection (Hawthorn) No. 55 overall; 2006 rookie elevation (Hawthorn); 2009 NAB AFL Draft traded by Hawthorn for No. 46 (Ben Stratton) and No. 70 (Matthew Suckling).

2013 Coaches Call

2012 was a pretty consistent year for the majority until he got injured in the finals. Up until then he was one of our consistent performers across the year. He kicked 30 goals as a half-forward and is a bit of a barometer for the team, so when he was putting pressure on, the rest of the team seemed to jump on board, so he was an important factor last year.

Pre-season has been injury interrupted, which has been pretty frustrating for him. Since the hamstring, he’s had a couple of soft tissue injuries. He’s back running now and he’s still got basically a month to get himself right, so we hope he can get back pretty quickly and can get going again.

We hope in 2013 he continues to improve. There are still areas of his game he needs to improve, so even though he had a reasonable year last year, he’s still got some areas to go forward in. He’s got to get himself fit first and then look to improve on last year.
