It is a sign of Kennedy’s extraordinary consistency that a season when he played every game for the fourth consecutive year and averaged 27 disposals and five tackles was considered a slightly down campaign for the outstanding midfielder.

He experienced a minor dip in form late in the year, but bounced back superbly to share the club award for best finals player with Jarrad McVeigh and finish top three in the best and fairest for the fourth successive year.

His goalkicking was a little down, he managed 14.16 after last year’s 29.13, but he remains one of the AFL’s best players – particularly around the stoppages – and a vital member of the Swans’ engine room.

Previous AFL club: (Hawthorn 2008-09: 13 games, 1 goal).

Draft history: 2006 NAB AFL Draft 3rd round father-son selection (Hawthorn) No. 40 overall; 2009 NAB AFL Draft traded by Hawthorn for No. 39 (Sam Grimley).

2014 Coaches Call

His 2013 season was just another super year. He’s ‘Mr Consistency’ and he plays well in big games. He really is a pleasure to watch and certainly was in 2013.

His pre-season has been really good. He’s fit, he’s had a good break and he’s ready to go. He had a big workload last year so we’re slowly building him up because the bulk of his work will be in games, not in pre-season.

We hope in 2014 he can continue to get better. It’s hard to think that he will improve given his form in the last couple of years, but we think he can. We think Joey will be super again for us this year as he has been since he got here.
