A suspension meant Tippett was prevented from making his Swans debut until round 12, but he quickly made up for lost time, finishing as his new club’s leading goalkicker with 35.

It included a blistering three-game spell between rounds 19-21, kicking 17 goals against the Western Bulldogs, Collingwood and St Kilda.

Cut down by a knee injury in the finals, but his looming partnership with Lance Franklin must be giving opposition sides nightmares.

Previous AFL club: Adelaide Crows (2008-12: 104 games, 188 goals).

Draft history: 2006 NAB AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Adelaide) No. 32 overall; 2013 NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft 1st round selection (Sydney) No. 11 overall.

2014 Coaches Call

His 2013 season was probably frustrating for us and him that he had to serve the suspension and only play half the year. He also had a few niggles towards the back end of the year and missed our last game, so it was frustrating that we didn’t see the best of him. In saying that, what we did see definitely highlights the exciting period that we’ve got ahead of us.

His pre-season has been really good. He’s had a good run. Given we’re still learning about his body, we’re still monitoring his program depending on what we think he needs and we’re still understanding the limits that he can take from a training perspective. In saying that, we’re certainly miles ahead of where we were last year and the difference also is that we’re getting him ready to play round one, which is a big bonus for us.

We hope in 2014 that he can remain injury free and can be consistently out there. If all goes well, we’re really confident that he can be a great player for us, so we hope he has a smooth run from here on in.
