The young midfielder took a significant step forward in 2013, moving from a regular substitute at the back end of the previous season to a dangerous and highly valued member of the starting line-up.

Playing every game, he averaged 21 disposals and five marks and proved a more than handy forward, finishing with 22 goals.

When Kurt Tippett went down early in the semi-final against Carlton, Parker drifted forward and kicked 3.2 to help ensure victory.

Tough and durable, he is set to pick up the mantle left by retired club great Jude Bolton.

Draft history: 2010 NAB AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Sydney) No. 40 overall.

2014 Coaches Call

His 2013 season was pretty solid. Parkes wasn’t satisfied with 2012 and he came back with so much determination last year. The way he goes about it is so impressive. He doesn’t miss a session and he does extras. He never whinges and he is really coachable and he had a consistent year playing in the midfield.

His pre-season has been terrific. He’s there and he does every minute of every session. We like to say he’s like Jude Bolton – but with hair. He’s very coachable and just has great energy around the group.

We hope in 2014 that he can step up again and keep improving.  We want to see him play more minutes in the midfield and just keep improving as a player. Each year he has improved so I’m sure with the way he goes about it that that will be the case again.
