Nine years after being criticised for his performance in the 2003 Grand Final when with Collingwood, Shaw put it to bed with a critical role across the Swans’ entire 2012 premiership campaign. 

Showing leadership and important run out of defence, Shaw often set up his side’s forward forays while keeping tabs on the opposition’s best attacking options. 

A roaring success in four years in Sydney, Shaw has 100 games for the Swans and 200 career games well in his sights in the coming year.

Draft history: 1999 National AFL Draft 2nd round father-son selection (Collingwood) No. 18 overall; 2008 NAB AFL Draft traded by Collingwood for No. 46 (Luke Rounds).

2013 Coaches Call

2012 was an outstanding success, culminating in another premiership medal for the Shaw family who now have medals both at Collingwood and Sydney and I’m sure Rhyce is very happy to have one of his own.

Pre-season has been very strong, with a slight hiccup with a hamstring injury that only kept him out for a short period of time.

We hope in 2013 that Rhyce will produce another solid season and will return as an integral part of our back six once again.
