Richards’ astonishing career renaissance from unwanted Bomber to defensive stalwart took another impressive turn last season when he moved past 150 games for the Swans and 200 matches for his career.

The fiercely dedicated veteran felt he was a little below the form that led to a first All-Australian nod in 2012, but he still played every game and finished third at the club with 98 marks for the year.

Turning 31 at the start of the season, he feels he still has plenty of football left in him.

Previous AFL club: Essendon (2002-05: 33 games, 19 goals).

Draft history: 2000 National AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Essendon) No. 27 overall traded by West Coast for Michael Prior; 2005 NAB AFL Draft traded by Essendon for No. 19 (Courtenay Dempsey) and No. 51 (Sam Lonergan).

2014 Coaches Call

His 2013 season was terrific. Ted Richard is like Old Man River, he just keeps on rolling. After his sensational form in 2012, which earned him All-Australian selection, he had another great year in 2013 where he continually took on the best forwards in the competition.

His pre-season has been impressive. He hasn’t missed a beat this pre-season and he looks in great knick again.

We hope in 2014 that he can again fulfil his role down back and continue to do such a good job on some of the league’s best forwards.
