After claiming the 2010 NAB AFL Rising Star award, Hannebery had a quiet start to 2011. He found top form through the middle of the season to end the year second at the club in handballs (243), fourth in disposals (497) and seventh in the best and fairest. Hannebery averaged just under 25 possessions between rounds 13 and 24 before his shoulder troubles resurfaced in the finals. Had off-season surgery and the courageous midfielder will be hoping to leave his shoulder problems behind him in 2012. Looms as a future leader. Coaches' call: 2011 was … a year where he showed improvement again from 2010 so that was a good effort. He had trouble with his shoulder at the end of the season, which hurt us in games as we missed his run, drive and enthusiasm. Preseason has been … hampered slightly at the start by the shoulder surgery he had in the off-season. But he came back and ran really well, he was still in the top three, before he had to have his knee cartilage operated on. But he’s been diligent, he’s done everything right and will be back for the start of the season We hope in 2012 … that we will see further improvement from Dan. We’ll see him on the wing, and we’ll put him through the middle of the ground as well. He still needs to work hard on his decision making and skills, especially kicking. Player honours: 2010 NAB AFL Rising Star. Brownlow Medal: 2011 votes 2; career votes 11. Draft history: 2008 NAB AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Sydney) No. 30 overall.
