Son of Hawthorn premiership star John Kennedy jnr and grandson of Hawk legend John snr, he surprisingly was released by Hawthorn at the end of the 2009 season. Plays with plenty of grunt, but found it difficult to win a regular spot in the Hawk line-up and played just 10 games last year. However, he averaged almost 20 possessions a game and the Swans believe he can fill a midfield or defensive position because of his ball-reading ability and strong body.

Draft history: 2006 NAB AFL Draft 3rd round father/son selection (Hawthorn) No. 40 overall; 2009 NAB AFL Draft traded by Hawthorn for No. 39 (Sam Grimley).
