Burst out of the blocks at the start of the season and displayed what many considered career-best form, highlighted by an AFL-record 19 tackles in round three against West Coast.

Finished the year with 154 tackles to move past former teammate Brett Kirk as the most prolific tackler in AFL history.

However, a knee injury warming up to take on Gold Coast in round 16 slowed his progress.

Having not missed a game since round 13, 2005, Bolton’s streak of 145 straight appearances finally ended.

Sidelined for two games, he had a solid end to the season and took his career tally to 279 matches, meaning he could this season become just the third Swan to reach 300 games.

Draft history: 1998 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Sydney) No. 8 on-traded by Richmond to Geelong for Jason Mooney.
