The new substitution rule led to many clubs going with a lone ruckman in 2011 and that worked against Seaby.

Played in round one, but Shane Mumford’s form kept him to just seven games for the year.

A potential trade to Port Adelaide failed to materialise, so the experienced Seaby will have to fight hard to add to his 115 career games with the Swans and West Coast.

Coaches' call:

2011 was … a year where he was still getting going from the ankle and foot problems that dogged him in 2010. As well the rule changes made it hard for us to play two ruckmen and that made life difficult for Seabs who played seven games for the season.

Preseason has been … a period where he has moved better than in any previous preseason and really worked on his running. He has worked hard to give himself every opportunity to take that spot as the ruckman/forward

We hope in 2012 … that he can really compete and show us he can get through games and be mobile. We want him to take contested marks, kick goals and put on pressure when he is forward.
