Coming off a strong 2010 campaign and a superb pre-season, Malceski was primed for a big year in 2011.

But, for the third time in his career, a knee injury got in the way.

A third ruptured knee ligament led to a second bout of LARS surgery, which kept the running defender out until round nine.

He managed 12 games for the season, taking his career tally past the 100 mark.

But, after coming back from the knee surgery, Malceski struggled with a groin problem and missed the finals.

Aims to regain confidence during the pre-season.

Coaches' call:

2011 was… he had the LARS operation at the start of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament for the third time. He got back to playing fairly quickly and probably didn’t reach the heights he would have set for himself.

His pre-season has been… very strong, he’s back to full fitness and we’ll see him playing a defensive-midfield role again this year.

In 2012 we want to see… him injury-free and back to his best.

Player honours: 2nd best and fairest 2007; All-Australian nominee 2007, 2010.

Brownlow Medal: career votes 13.  

Draft history: 2002 National AFL Draft 5th round selection (Sydney) No. 64 overall.
