In his second season in Sydney, Mumford emerged as one of the best ruckmen in the AFL. Despite missing five games due to injury and suspension, he finished fourth in the AFL for hit-outs and his average of 34.8 a game was second only to North Melbourne’s Todd Goldstein (35.3). At 198cm and 105kg, Mumford has impressive size, but is also able to secure possession across the ground to add significantly to the Swans’ midfield. One of the pillars the club will be built around for years to come. Coaches' call: 2011 was … a good effort as he overcame considerable injury problems with his knee, back and foot. He spent a massive amount of time on the ground – much more than was expected of ruckman before the sub rule came in – and showed great endurance. He competed in the air and at ground level and his repeat efforts make him a standout. Preseason has been … he needed a rest but he came back keen and ready to go and feels he’s in the best shape he’s been. We hope in 2012 … that he can improve again on last year.
