The Swans nabbed Walsh from St Kilda in the dying minutes of the trade period and are pleased to have the young Irishman on board. Yet to play a senior game, Walsh’s 193cm, 98kg frame excited the Swans’ coaching staff. Performed well in the VFL over the past two seasons and is expected to make his AFL debut in 2012. We drafted him because… we thought he had a lot to offer. Quality talls across the board are pretty rare these days so we identified him as one who could play a role for us, back or forward. His versatility, work rate and competitiveness was what attracted us to him.
His pre-season has been… pretty good as well. He played in the International Rules match and did really well and since then he’s been consistently on the track and has done the bulk of pre-season. He’s learned a lot about how we play, obviously coming from a different club, it’s been an educational pre-season as well as a fitness one.
In 2012 we want to see… that he gets his chance and makes the most of it. He’s worked really hard over the pre-season to give himself a chance so hopefully he plays well in the NAB Cup and can play a role for us either as a forward or a defender.
