Plenty was expected of Dennis-Lane after a strong finish to 2010, but he endured a largely frustrating campaign. Named in the side for round one, he was forced to withdraw due to injury, a situation repeated several times during the year. The lively small forward managed just three games, taking his career tally to 11, and kicked three goals. He has already identified improving his fitness base as his key target during the pre-season as he sets himself for a big 2012. Coaches' call:
2011 was… a bit of a stop-start year, he got picked three times, rolled his ankle once and a couple of other times, for whatever reasons, he didn’t line up on the day. So it was frustrating in that respect. He played a couple of games and did OK in Brisbane but it was a little bit of a stop-start year and probably one he’d be disappointed with.
His pre-season has been… injury interrupted so he hasn’t quite done the bulk of training. He came back in really good shape which is a credit to him because he worked really hard in the off-season to get his body right and his fitness right but he’s just struggled with injuries since then and hasn’t quite put together the solid sessions. The last two weeks he’s been back out there so hopefully he’s not too far away.
In 2012 we want to see… that his fitness work he did over the pre-season pays off and that he’s one in the forward line who can play consistently and kick goals for us because he’s showed that he’s certainly got a knack for doing that. Probably the biggest area of improvement is developing his defensive side of the game and putting some forward pressure on. Brownlow Medal: career votes 3.
