Sydney Swans QBE Ladies Lunch

More than 600 women mingled with a select group of lucky players and enjoyed an afternoon of footy talk, music and laughter at the Sydney Swans Ladies Lunch, sponsored by QBE on Friday May 21.

The annual event is a highlight of the Swans calendar and tickets are always hotly sought after.

Players including Ted Richards, Jarred Moore, Michael Pyke, Jarrad McVeigh, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Martin Mattner, Jude Bolton and Lewis Jetta joined their mums and partners at the lunch.

The welcoming speech was given by co-captain Craig Bolton, who said there were several players who always made sure they were at the front of the list when invitations were being handed out.

But Bolton also used his speech to emphasise that the Swans were truly appreciative of their legion of female supporters.

He also made it clear that the Club was an inclusive organisation that welcomed people of any religion, race or gender.

For the most part it was an afternoon of light-hearted fun, with the MC Mark Beretta conducting a trivia competition that involved Jude Bolton, Martin Mattner and Ted Richards joining up with Kylie Gillies, Deborah Hutton and Sarah Cumming.

Richards and Cumming won the contest, much to Ted’s delight.

The entertainment was provided by 1927, who performed their hit song, “If I Could’’. The band was so well-received that a number of women cleared a space in the Parkside Ballroom at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre and made a dance floor.

Guests were treated to footy talk ahead of the game against Fremantle, and there was pampering at the massage and manicure stations. The raffle and silent auctions were popular with prizes including a getaway for two to Hamilton Island, Bing Lee Gift Cards, Taronga Zoo ‘Behind the Scenes’ experience, and a ‘Best Ever Sydney Swans Match Day’ experience.

Every guest walked away from the Ladies Lunch with a bag of goodies including hair and make-up samples, magazines and chocolates.
