Team SWANS

What is TeamSWANS?

The Team Swans Community Development and Code Promotion Program aims to provide assistance to charitable causes whilst also supporting the AFL and its promotion of the game in NSW.

The Team Swans Community Development Program has evolved into not only providing valuable player resources to help drive the Club's community involvement through its Healthy Choices Program, but also provides significant opportunity for young players to develop personal skills in conjunction with the Club's Leadership Development Program.

Our goal is to reach out and provide meaningful experiences that impact on individuals, groups and communities, in a football and humanitarian sense.

The assistance that Team Swans can provide to those in need benefits the Club and the AFL. The players, coaches and staff all support the initiatives of this program and gain valuable experience from the opportunities that it affords.

The Team Swans brand is most highly visible in its promotion of the Healthy Choices Schools Program.

Through our partnership with the AFL, Team Swans supports the efforts of junior AFL clubs in developing future stars in NSW. We show this commitment by providing players and staff to assist with the promotion of AFL throughout the state.

One of the goals of Team Swans is to develop relationships with members of the business community who have similar charitable interests and to assist them in providing support to various community causes.

For the Team Swans Community Development Programme, as the name indeed suggests, 'community' is a central theme. We break the community element of the program into three main groups: code Promotion, community development and schools.

1. Code Promotion
Team Swans provides players to promote the code in the following ways:
  • Junior club visits
  • School competitions
  • Collaborative efforts with AFL NSW-ACT for code promotion in NSW

2. Schools
Team Swans representatives enjoy regular visits and taking part in activities such as:
  • Team Swans Healthy Choices Programme
  • Acting as role models by leading discussion groups on their careers, how to succeed and achieve dreams.
  • School competitions
  • School assemblies, presentations and fetes.

3. Community Development
The following are examples of how Team Swans supports community development:
  • Hospital visits - Team Swans players are regular visitors to patients in hospital, in particular the Sydney Children's Hospital and The Children's Hospital, Westmead.
  • Charities – Oncology Children's Foundation is the major charity partner of the Sydney Swans. Others include Redkite and the Heart Foundation. Requests for support from other charitable organisations will invariably be considered.
