Ben McGlynn will miss Friday night’s clash with Essendon at Etihad Stadium due to illness, with Brandon Jack to replace him for the round nine match.

McGlynn, who has been among the Swans’ most consistent performers this season, did not travel to Melbourne with the team on Thursday after feeling ill following Wednesday’s training session in Sydney.

Speaking to SwansTV for Centrum Team Selection, John Longmire confirmed that McGlynn would not face the Bombers this week.

“He’s had a great start to the season, Benny, in that midfield and forward role, but he goes out of the team this week” he said.

“He just felt a bit crook after training yesterday.

“He trained fine, but just afterwards he felt a little bit crook after training, so we had to rule him out.”

Brandon Jack, who comes into the side in place of McGlynn, will line up for his third senior game for the season.

Longmire said he had great confidence in Jack’s ability, particularly after his recent efforts against Fremantle and the Brisbane Lions, where he contributed one goal and two goals, respectively.

“Brandon has been in pretty good from when he’s played seniors for us,” he said.

“He hasn’t played many games just yet, but when he comes into the team he’s been a really good player in our front half.

“He puts pressure on the opposition when they’ve got the ball and his work at ground level and working off our talls will hopefully provide another option for us.”

The Swans will take on a determined Essendon outfit, who will be looking to put their third consecutive win on the board ahead of the round 10 bye.

Longmire said he expected another tough match tomorrow night with the Bombers, who have shown glimpses of their best form from early this season.

“The Bombers have had two wins in the last couple of weeks and on ANZAC Day against the Pies they got off to a great start and had nine scoring shots in the first quarter against Collingwood,” he said.

“We prepare for their best, as we do with all teams, and their midfield especially has got some absolute high quality.

“They’ve got a defence that (Essendon coach) ‘Bomber’ Thompson was really happy with last week who stood up.

“They’re the number one for efficient kicking in the competition, so if you allow them to run around and hit targets, then they’re the best at it.

“We need to put the pressure on the ball carrier and hopefully cause some turnovers.”

Longmire said the Swans needed to maintain the level of intensity they had built up over the last month leading into the bye.

“We just want to make sure we maintain our football which has got us back into some reasonable form over the last month,” he said.

“It really started four weeks ago against Fremantle, where we played some real high-quality pressure-type football, and that’s what we need to make sure we continue to do against the Bombers.

“It’s not easy to do, but we need to make sure we do it for four quarters if we’re going to have a positive result against Essendon.”

ESSENDON has received a boost ahead of Friday's night clash with the Sydney Swans at Etihad Stadium, with TomBellchambers and David Myers returning to the side.

Bellchambers has not played this season after having surgeryon his ankle in January, while Myers has missed the past three games with ahamstring complaint.

Paul Chapman (suspension) and Martin Glesson are the two Bombers who make way.
