Following an encouraging debut season at the Sydney Swans, Brandon Jack continued to impress in 2014.

The 20-year-old, who played eight senior games in 2014, showed off his speed and pressure throughout the season both at the AFL and NEAFL level and continued to develop as one of the club’s most exciting up-and-coming players.

With 17 senior games under his belt over the last two seasons, Brandon Jack told sydneyswans.com.au he was looking forward to trying to cement his spot in the senior team next season.

You played eight senior games this year. What did you take out of the season as a whole?

On the back of last year, it was probably another good year of progression for me. I was in and out of the team a little bit but I guess there weren’t too many injuries this year, so it instilled more hunger in me to cement my spot in the team. It also taught me a few lessons about what I need to do to get to that stage.

Speaking of those lessons, what are some of the things you think you need to work on going forward?

Obviously fitness is key in modern football. Also, I’ve spoken to the coach and we’ve agreed that I need to get to a stage where I can stay on the field and run all day and that’s obviously my main focus going into this pre-season. I pushed into the midfield towards the backend of the year, so I’m really going to focus on building that midfield tank and the ability to keep running.

What are some of the areas the coaches have been really happy with?

I think just my defensive pressure and my chasing and tackling has been pretty consistent through the year. That’s really what I've been focusing on going into games. The other one is probably just my ability to take on feedback and focus on one thing each week and grow as a player.

What were some of your highlights from this year?

I think playing in Kieren’s 150th out here against Port Adelaide. That was a great occasion and was a great win by the boys as well. Also, the win over Fremantle was pretty special and that was my first game for the year. It was the game that kind of got us going and I was happy with the role I played, so those two wins were very special.

Who are some of the players who have really impressed you with how they performed this year?

Benny McGlynn I think has been super this year. He’s pushed into the midfield and is someone who I will try to model myself on with his ability to put heaps of pressure on the other team and the work both ways. It’s super impressive.

Other than yourself, you do you think can make the step up next year and really push into the seniors?

We have a great young group of players, so I’m confident any of them could really push in and play consistent senior footy. Zak Jones I think is one to look out for. I get on really well with ‘Jonesy’ and I think he’s got a great attitude. Also, Dean Towers – he works really hard and he’s taken a big step this year and hopefully he’ll take another one next year.

The off-season is upon up. What are your plans?

A few of the boys are heading over to Thailand for a week, so that will be good to get away and just relax with all of the boys. Then we’ll come back and get into it I guess.
