Swans midfielders Kieren Jack and Luke Parker have taken significant steps in their comeback trails, with the co-captain an outside chance of playing against North Melbourne on Saturday.

Both Parker and Jack ran laps around the SCG on Tuesday as the playing group were put through their paces ahead of the do-or-die clash at ANZ Stadium.

Parker, who sported a compression bandage in his 4-5 laps of the oval, will be given another week to test out that repaired broken leg which has forced the reigning Bob Skilton Medallist to sit out the last four matches.

The jury, however, is still out on Jack who continues to make a speedy recovery from a strained medial ligament.

General Manager of Football Tom Harley said both were making positive progress.

“Kieren is a bit closer (than Luke) so we’ll wait until Thursday to make a call,” Harley said for this week’s HCF Injury Update.

“If you had to pinpoint two players who made sure they left no stone unturned in their rehab, they would be right at the top of the list.

“It’s a credit to them and credit to the medical team for getting them to this point.

“From our fans’ point-of-view I think they should be really encouraged.”

Nick Smith will run through a final fitness test on Thursday to confirm his anticipated selection for Saturday’s final.

The defender was a chance to return last weekend but fitness staff opted to tread on the side of caution on the 27-year-old’s comeback from a hamstring strain.

Among the other players available, Dan Robinson has been deemed fully fit after spending four weeks out with a broken collarbone.
