Defensive coach John Blakey says...

“It's terrific to have Dane Rampe in our back six. One man's bad luck is another's good fortune. Unfortunately we lost Alex Johnson a couple of years ago so we looked for a guy who could play on smalls and talls and Dane has been that player. He has got super speed, he's very strong and you can play him on the opposition's best key forward and smallest on the ground. He has developed very well over the last couple of years. He's had some big roles...it's a great attribute to have and he's certainly an integral part of our back six. Having said that he's very capable of going through our midfield. We saw later on in the year when we were in a bit of trouble, we threw him into the midfield mix and we know he's capable of giving us some great drive because he's such a power athlete. We'll obviously use him down back again and at different times he'll probably go through the midfield."

Season highlight...

Dane Rampe's poise in defence allowed the Swans to gain the ascendency against Adelaide in Round 18, a game which ignited good form towards the latter end of the season.

The dashing half-backman gathered 32 disposals and nine rebounds to be judged among the best in the 52-point win.

The performance capped off a season of further development for the 25-year-old whose importance to the backline lifted in the wake of Nick Malceski's departure and Rhyce Shaw's retirement.

After a quiet qualifying final, Rampe bounced back in the semi final against North Melbourne to collect 31 possessions, nine rebounds and six inside 50s.
