Emerging defender Jordan Foote admits he has grown in confidence after making his debut at senior level this season.

Foote made his debut against Carlton in Round 18 at the SCG collecting ten disposals along with four tackles playing across half back.

After consistent form in the NEAFL throughout the season the 20-year-old replaced co-captain Jarrad McVeigh in the Swans side and looked comfortable playing on a half back flank.

Foote said the taste of senior football has only increased his appetite for playing more senior football.

“It was really exciting to play my first game,” Foote said.

“It would have been good to get a few more under my belt but it is not how it panned out unfortunately.

“That is next seasons goal now to hopefully play a few more games.

“Playing the first game takes the weight of your shoulders as it shows the coach is confident enough for you to go in.”

Foote watched many of his teammates from the development squad become consistent senior footballers in 2016.

Tom Papley, George Hewett and Aliir Aliir just a few of the names to take their opportunities at AFL level.

“The fact that some of the young guys have been able to go in, play their first game and then hold their spot to have a good season in the season gives me confidence that it can be done,” he said.

“I was happy that I was lucky enough to have a consistent season in the NEAFL.

“Once you play your first game you become a bit more of a leader to the young guys that maybe haven’t had their first senior game yet.

“You take more responsibility and become a better player for it.”

Foote will join his younger teammates back on the training track at Lakeside Oval on November 25.
