Up-and-coming Sydney Swans forward Will Hayward has put pen to paper, signing a one-year contract extension with the Club.

It’s been a memorable week for Sydney’s No. 9 who will make his AFL debut against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium tonight, just four months after being drafted by the Swans.

The South Australian, who was recruited with pick 21 in last year’s AFL National Draft, impressed in his first pre-season by playing two JLT Community Series matches.

Sydney’s Head of Football Tom Harley says he’s rapt Hayward has committed to the Swans so early in his career.

“We’re very happy that Will has decided to extend his first contract with the Club by a further year,” Harley said.

“Will’s made an immediate impression with his willingness to learn and also his thirst for the contest.

“It’s exciting for us to have Will commit and play his first game all in the same week, and we look forward to watching his progress.”

The 18-year-old will now be a Swan until at least the end of 2019.

Hayward follows Isaac Heeney and Callum Mills in recommitting to Sydney this year.
