The Sydney Swans will pull on their rainbow socks this weekend as Mardi Gras celebrations culminate in Sydney.

After taking part in the first day of the 2019 Mardi Gras Festival at Fair Day in Victoria Park, the Swans will once again be marching on Saturday night in the annual Mardi Gras Parade.

Sydney’s float, made possible with the support of QBE, will proudly display the message ‘Everyone is welcome at the football’.

Across town, Swans players will be showing their support for the Mardi Gras by wearing rainbow socks in their opening pre-season match against GWS in Blacktown.

Meanwhile the Sydney Swans have been shortlisted in the Sport category for the 2019 Australian LGBTI Awards, alongside nine other worthy contenders who have been recognised for their contribution to the LGBTI community.

The awards ceremony will be held at The Star Events Centre on Friday evening.

In 2018, the Sydney Swans Pride Game won an Australian LGBTI Award for the Community Initiative/Charity of the Year.

The award was recognition for hosting the first ever Pride Game in Sydney for premiership points following the launch of Sydney’s Diversity Action Plan.

The Sydney Swans are committed to ensuring everyone feels welcome and safe at the football and the Club’s official LGBTI supporter group, the Rainbow Swans, is continuing to grow.
