Fleet-footed young gun Oliver Florent credits his glowing early-season form to a relentless approach to his game – and he’s intent on again coming to the fore in Saturday night’s showdown with Richmond.

Florent gathered 25 touches and two goals to earn four AFL Coaches’ Association votes for his performance against Melbourne last week, a starring display he’s hoping to replicate as the Swans do battle with the Tigers at Marvel Stadium.

“Work rate is very important for me. Getting around the ground and getting involved are both a key focus of mine,” Florent told SwansTV.

“I thought my work rate was at a pretty good standard against Melbourne last week, and I managed to get on the end of two goals. Hopefully I can bring that form into our game against Richmond."

Sydney speedsters Harry Cunningham and Zak Jones are two teammates on whom Florent has based his game since signing as the Swans’ first-round 2016 AFL Draft selection.

Cunningham has played 108 games and Jones 77, and the two livewires have long injected searing pace on a wing and at half-back.

Jones and Florent are also among a number of emerging Swans being moulded into hybrid midfielders, a role which sees them split their time between a wing and around the footy at stoppages.

Florent says he’s hoping to see Cunningham and Jones stamp their full impact on Saturday’s game, but he insists it’ll take a team-wide effort to claw victory.

“They’re crucial players to our team. We wouldn’t get a lot of run without those guys in the team, so it’s important for them to be up and firing,” Florent said.

“But it’s also important for everyone to play their own role. We all bring different talents to the team and hopefully we can get them all clicking against Richmond.

“It’s going to take 22 of them to win against us this week, and it’s going to take 22 of us to get the win as well.”
