A host of girls from Warners Bay Australian Football Club were in the SCG stands for the Sydney Swans’ emphatic 45-point victory over the West Coast Eagles on Sunday afternoon – and from all reports, they raved about the trip the whole way home.

The budding under-14 stars had witnessed everything a Swans fan could wish for as the final siren reverberated throughout the SCG, with Sydney having cruised to victory over the reigning premier to end the pre-bye period on a splendid note.

But the men in red and white weren’t done yet.

Decorated Sydney forward Lance Franklin – a favourite among the Warners Bay girls – nailed a set shot after the siren to send the 36,640-strong crowd into raptures.

The girls also enjoyed a Maccas Kick2Kick on the hallowed SCG turf after the match, which saw thousands of eager fans set foot on the ground and try to emulate their favourite Swans stars.

Under-14 team manager Scott Davis said the girls had a wonderful time at the footy.

“It was big. I got a lot of feedback from parents the day after saying the kids haven’t stopped talking about it,” Davis told Swans Media.

“A lot of the girls in our team have brothers and sisters – they came along as well – and it was all really positive. The girls really enjoyed it, the families enjoyed it and it’s hopefully something they all remember for a long time to come.

“Buddy’s kick was the icing on the cake. It was a great finish to what was a great game. For Buddy to have centre stage at the end was pretty cool, and then to see all the girls sing the song was great.”
