Sydney Swans veteran Kieren Jack may return to football this weekend as he continues to make positive progress in his recovery from a hip injury.

Jack has been kept on the sidelines for the last month since his last match against GWS in Round 5 at the SCG.

Head of Football Tom Harley said the 29-year-old has showed encouraging signs at training this week.

“Kieren has been out now for about four weeks with his hip injury as a carry-over from a minor issue in the pre-season,” Harley told the HCF injury update.

“We have training on Wednesday afternoon and he will be a part of that.

“He is a test at this stage and we will weigh up all the facts after training as to whether he plays and where he plays.

“He is progressing well and has had a really good hitout in the last week or so.”

Jarrad McVeigh (hamstring) and Sam Naismith (knee) are both expected to miss Friday night’s match against Hawthorn at the SCG.

“Sam is recovering from a low grade medial ligament strain and it is unlikely he will play this week,” Harley said.

“With the bye coming up it gives him a good opportunity to recover and get a week and a half before the Thursday games against the Bulldogs.

“Jarrad has had a retched run with soft tissue so he won’t play this week.

“We need to be respectful of soft tissue injuries with Jarrad given the number he has had in the past 12 months.”
