Midfielder Dan Robinson could miss up to a month of football after breaking his jaw in last weekend’s NEAFL clash against Sydney University.

The 22-year-old was struck in a marking contest on the grandstand-side wing of Henson Park during the second quarter of Friday night’s Round 8 contest, an incident which was cited by the umpires and refereed directly to the league’s tribunal.

Robinson came straight from the field in the hands of trainers and failed to return.

Scans on Sunday revealed the full extent of the injury, a crushing blow in what Head of Football Tom Harley said has been an unfortunate run for the emerging talent.

“It was, it must be said, a pretty crude act,” Harley said of the incident in this week’s HCF Injury Update.

“Dan was in really good form, he’d had a couple of weeks back from his shoulder (injury) but unfortunately he’s got the fractured jaw now and he’ll be sidelined for probably a month.

“But we’ll wait until it recovers from the blow and his subsequent surgery and then we’ll welcome Robbo back when he’s ready to go.”

Robinson has played 12 games over the past five seasons with the Sydney Swans, progress hampered by prolonged periods out of the game due to injuries.

He broke his collarbone playing NEAFL towards the end of the season, prematurely ending a season which yielded four senior appearances for the QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate.

Last year, Robinson dislocated his shoulder in Round 7 which sidelined him for four months.

He played in this year’s season-opener against Port Adelaide only to break the same collarbone from 2015, missing six weeks.

Meanwhile, Harry Cunningham will miss at least the next six weeks after scans confirmed a tear to the Lisfranc ligament in his foot suffered in the Swans’ clash with St Kilda.

Both Jarrad McVeigh (hamstring) and Sam Naismith (knee) are likely to be rested until after the bye as the duo recover from respective injuries.
