Previously a key forward and back-up ruckman, Sinclair was given an opportunity to lead the ruck after Sam Naismith suffered a season-ending knee injury. Sinclair thrived in his new role, playing all 23 games, recording 90 per cent of Sydney hit-outs and facing Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy, Aaron Sandilands and a host of other formidable big men. The 29-year-old also booted 12 goals to top the competition’s primary ruckmen on the scoresheet, and he capped off his stellar campaign with the Swans’ Best Clubman honour. Sinclair’s big frame, athleticism and penetrating kick for goal could see him return to the forward line in 2019, but John Longmire might opt to play him in the ruck after his sparkling 2018 season.
