We have taken key forward Sam Reid and midfielder Indhi Kirk as Rookies for the 2024 season as the AFL Draft period concluded today.

Reid, who has played 181 games for the Swans since being taken in the 2009 draft, missed the whole of last season with a hamstring injury but has been back in full training in recent months.

The long-time servant in the red and white was de-listed last month with the assurance the club would take him in the Rookie draft.

Kirk, who is the son of Swans legend and former premiership player Brett Kirk, was taken as a Category B Rookie from the QBE Sydney Swans Academy.

Indhi Kirk enjoyed a stellar over-age season with the QBE Swans Academy this year, and is no stranger to the red and white, also featuring at VFL level this year for the Swans, making his senior debut against Sandringham in Round 15.

After putting in plenty of work and putting his best foot forward this year, Kirk lead the Talent League averages in 2023 for tackles (8.2 per game) and inside 50s (6.8) to go with his 23.8 disposals and and 3.6 marks from five appearances for the QBE Sydney Swans Academy. 

He also ran out for the Allies in 2023, part of the team that won the U18 National Championships for the first time.

Sydney Swans Head of Recruiting and List management, Kinnear Beatson, said both players will add depth to the list in 2024 and beyond.

“Sam has worked extremely hard in his rehab following hamstring surgery last year to the point our medical and conditioning staff believe he is in a strong position to continue his AFL career. We all know that Sam provides great flexibility and depth for our coaches with our key position stocks," Beatson said.

“Indhi joins us as a 19-year-old Category B Rookie. During the 2023 season Indhi has worked diligently at adding strength and size to his frame whilst also improving his football craft. He played well in our Academy team that competed in the Victorian Coates Hire League, as well as playing very well during the AFL National U18 Championships where he played as a hybrid midfielder for the undefeated Allies team under the guidance of new Swans Assistant Coach Mark McVeigh," Beatson said on Kirk.

"Indhi also more than held his own whilst playing in the Swans Reserves team in the VFL.”   

Kirk joins Allies teammates Caiden Cleary and Patrick Snell, alongside Victorian Will Green as new members of the Swans after the conclusion of the AFL Draft and Rookie Draft period.
